In the city destroyed by the fighting, the soldiers find a pregnant German woman, and the command of the unit decides to help her get to the hospital. Lieutenant Ivlev is instructed to accompany this woman to the rear, giving him a driver and a shell-shocked soldier, who also needs to be sent to the hospital.
