About PCA...In 1941, Pennsylvania Central Airlines made a significant move, relocating its headquarters to the newly established Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, which served Washington D.C. It was one of the airport's original three tenants, having actively participated in the airport's design process. Adjacent to its hangars, a row of office buildings came to be known as "mahogany row," further solidifying the airline's presence. With this pivotal relocation, the airline rebranded itself as "The Capital Airline" and introduced its new DC-3 passenger aircraft, affectionately named "Capitaliners." As the war raged on, Pennsylvania Central Airlines was already envisioning a post-war expansion, requesting the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) to authorize new routes that would extend its reach to 23 states. The airline's ambitions even stretched across the Atlantic, as it entertained the idea of venturing into trans-Atlantic flights.
