Description: This is a large archive of personal papers of the artist Edmund Quincy (1903-1997) who worked in the United States and Europe in the early to mid-20th century. A descendant of the distinguished Quincy political family of Massachusetts, he was the son of Josiah Quincy, Mayor of Boston. He was known for his portrait and landscape paintings, which were widely exhibited. Quincy's work is held by many museums, and another collection of his papers is held at the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art. Items in this collection date from Quincy's childhood in the early 1800s, through the 1960s. The collection includes the following: 1. Correspondence, 1930s-1940s. Dated 1965. 4. Notebook documenting attendees at an exhibition of Quincy's work at Galerie Zak, Paris. Includes some important dealers, collectors, and other significant art world figures. Undated. 5. Publicity material for exhibitions of Quincy's work, including announcement cards, press releases, catalogs. Circa 1930s. 6. Loose pages of handwritten and typescript notes, lectures, poetry 7. Three photographs of Quincy as a boy, with lock of his hair in envelope. 1900s-1910s. 8. Newspaper clippings, circa 1940s-1960s.
