This listing is for a "J. Perone" tenor saxophone mouthpiece. This is not a maker that I am familiar with. I scoured the internet and found a few other examples for sale on ebay, but no other definitive information. The only thing I could find was a saxophone professor by that name, but there was little information on him available. I'm guessing that this professor is the maker of this mouthpiece, and that he probably worked on a very small scale, maybe just providing mouthpieces to students and acquaintances. For an unknown piece, this seems to be very good quality. It looks to possibly be made from the same blank as the highly regarded hard rubber Brilhart Personaline. If nothing else, it is very much in that style, both externally and internally. It has scooped inner walls and a medium round chamber. The tip opening is .080" on the dot. It looks to have been machine faced and then hand finished. This mouthpiece is in very good used condition. The facing is perfectly smooth. There are no cracks or other damage. There are no tooth indentations on the beak. There is a spot on the interior (front of the chamber) where there are some gouges/scratches, perhaps from over exuberant cleaning, but these shouldn't have any adverse effect on playability. There is virtually no scratching/scuffing on the exterior. The rubber shows mild fading/discoloration. It has been cleaned/sanitized. This is a really nice playing piece, in my opinion. It is indeed very similar to a hard rubber Brilhart Personaline, but with perhaps just a bit more edge to it. This would be great if you are looking for that vibe, but don't want to spend the big bucks for an actual Personaline. Please feel free to message me with any questions. Thanks again for looking!
