A Detailed Description of the Virtual Walk on this DVD All photos on this page are actual still captures from this DVD. The Rome Walking Tour DVD or 720P High Def Download begins in front of the Arch of Titus, the oldest surviving arch in Rome. As you head down the Via Sacra - or Sacred Way - try to imagine the ancient Romans who once walked this way. You pass the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina (141 CE) and then the remains of the Basilica Aemilia (179 BCE) and the brick Curia - the Roman Senate - in the distance. Directly ahead on the Via Sacra is the Arch of Septimius Severus (203 CE). The walk next takes you to the Temple of Saturn and the Temple of Vespasian and Titus, and turning, you view the opposite side of the Arch of Septimius Severus. As you continue your walk in the Roman Forum, you pass over some of the original paving stones which have remained in place for over 2,000 years. Next the walk takes you past the Basilica Julia (12 BCE) and then past the temple of Castor and Pollux (484 BCE). Your walk takes you past the Temple of Vesta (64 CE) and next past the Temple of Romulus (309 CE). The next section of your walk takes you to the Palatine Hill, the origin of the word "palace." You enter the Domus Augustiana (92 CE), part of the vast palatial complex constructed on the Palatine by the Emperor Domitian. Walking further on you view the Stadium of Domitian (86 CE), also known as the Hippodrome. The next section of your Rome Walking Tour takes you to Piazza Navona, which was built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian. The fountains at each end of the Piazza were sculpted by Giacomo della Porta in 1575. This evening, the outdoor cafes are busy and Romans are enjoying a sidewalk art display in Piazza Navona. A Roman signorina is entertaining the crowd by creating massive bubbles which float delicately over the piazza. The Piazza Navona section of your Rome Walking Tour ends at the incredible Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi or Fountain of the Four Rivers (1651) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The next section of your walk begins beside another sidewalk cafe and proceeds down a busy street. You quickly arrive at the Piazza della Rotunda in which the Pantheon (126 CE) is located and you enter through the massive doorway. A visit to the Pantheon would not be complete without viewing the amazing coffered, concrete dome, Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome. Inside the Pantheon are buried two kings of Italy: Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I. Leaving the Pantheon you once again pass through the Piazza della Rotunda noting the Fontana del Pantheon, surmounted by an Egyptian obelisk. The fountain was constructed by Giacomo Della Porta in 1575. In the final two sections of your Rome Walking Tour, you visit the Trevi Fountain... and the Coliseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre (72 CE). Your Rome Walking Tour takes you inside one of the most famous works of Roman Engineering and Architecture. During your walk inside the Coliseum, you pause to view the Arch of Constantine (315 CE) with the Palatine Hill in the distance. Your walk inside the Coliseum takes you on both the upper and lower levels of the ancient structure. You get an intimate view of the Coliseum, just as you would if you were actually there. Your 60 minute Rome Walking Tour ends here in the Coliseum. And remember, this DVD makes a unique gift for family and friends!
