This is the area the balls were found.Digging is extremely difficult due to locate laws. It is now illegal to dig in the fields of France and limited in the fields of Belgium. The balls have been used and show wear. They may be misshapen. Included with the balls is a photo of a cutout shrapnel shell showing how the balls were placed. The shell exploded in the air releasing these deadly projectiles. The shell that is illustrated is most likely a French 75mm.
